    The late President Mr. Dong-nam Jung, born in Chunseong of Gangwondo, arrives in Seoul and starts shoes repairing work. His excellent manual dexterity was recognized and he learned how to make shoes. Thus, He opened a small shoe store in Jongno.

    “ROVA” the first hiking boots adequate to Koreans saw the light of day
    Back then, people used to go hiking wearing military boots but only imported trekking shoes were available. It was important to make hiking shoes suitable for Korean’s physical conditions and feet structure. Mr. Jung established a factory of hiking shoes called “Korean special shoes” in Cheonggyecheon of Seoul, only with three sewing machines and six technicians. Having no contact to learn shoemaking technical skills, they focused on analyzing the existing shoes in the market from A to Z. This way, they finally took the first step as creators of Korea’s hiking shoes.
    They made a careful analysis of well-known overseas hiking boots, in every detail of materials, structure, and design, trying to fit them according to the typical needs of Koreans. They literally “anatomized” three pairs of shoes a month. Once the trial product was made, they tested the product for hiking and everyday life repeatedly to find the drawbacks. This way, the nation’s first hiking boots for mass production based on techniques of our own, “ROVA” saw the light of day.

    Must goods for mountaineering! “Vibram Gold” and Hiking boots for a long-distance walk, “Four Season Gold”
    “Vibram Gold” based on Vibram sole, the most prestigious sole item: It took no less than an entire day to put thick leather in hot water to soften the texture and, strike it with a hammer to adjust it to the correct form.
    The process was finalized with double sewing. This complicated process only allowed the production of 200 pairs a day.
    For this reason, Vibram Gold was costly, as expensive as that of a sack of rice (80 kg).
    Despite the effort-taking process of taming thick and hard leather, Vibram Gold lovers never failed to look for this product as a must item for mountaineering. Thus, Vibram Gold was considered an object of envy and a symbol of pride among hikers and trekkers.

    Along with “Vibram Gold” for ice wall climbing, another key product of K2, “Four Season Gold,” with outstanding waterproof and air permeability for all seasons, was ideal for long-distance hiking.
    The annual turnover of these two products reached about 1,500 pairs, representing iconic products of K2.

    We thought that applying K2’s technology to safety shoes to protect feet
    in worksites and would develop more comfortable and strong safety shoes.
    Thus, we established the safety shoe line and knocked on the B2B market.
    Currently, K2 SAFETY has proudly become the nation’s best safety shoes
    by keeping the highest market share in the safety shoe market.

    Opened the nation's first exclusive brand shop
    of outdoor wear & items.
    By opening nation’s first exclusive brand shop of outdoor wear & items,
    far from conventional shops focused on select shops of the 1990s,
    we promoted K2 brand value while building brand trust.

    Construction of Headquarter Building of
    K2 KOREA in Seongsu-dong
    K2, born with only three sewing machines and six technicians,
    now starts to write a new history in the K2’s headquarter building of Seongsu-dong.

    With the license of “EIDER”, the authentic French outdoor goods brand, we brought stylish outdoor products to the domestic market.

    Icheon Distribution Center: start / ending of construction
    To meet the needs of the growing outdoor goods market, we extended our distribution center from Seongsu to Icheon. Icheon Distribution Center tripled its automated delivery system and operated direct delivery vehicles to 68 places of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do for short-time delivery.

  • 2009
    Establishment of the K2 GSF(Gaesong Industrial Complex)
    K2 KOREA moved into the Gaesong Industrial Complex, as part of the South-North Korea exchange and cooperation project that combines the capital and technology of South Korea and the land and workforce of North Korea. From this industrial complex, 20% of the total amount of K2’s hiking boots was produced.
